During a violent stormy night in the island of Cyprus, a group of people anxiously await for their leader Otello, a military Moro serving the Venetian Republic in the struggle against the Turks. The ship lands safely and Otello proclaims that enemies have been defeated. During his absentee, Otello appointed Lieutenant Cassio with a promotion in rank to captain.

Iago, a man who strongly believes he deserves that promotion, resents Otello’s and swears vengeance for his exasperating betrayal. Drowned by his own egotistic pride, Iago initiates a plot to take revenge. It starts with the help of Roderigo, a young Venetian gentleman.

Iago’s evil master mind uses his malicious manipulating tactic; knowingly that Roderigo has been a true admirer of Otello’s wife Desdemona. Iago schemes for a conversation. Roderigo tells Iago that his faith, to win over the love of Desdemona, is hopeless. Iago shares his sympathy with a deceiving concern. But his true intent is to take advantage of Roderigo. Iago confines his secret hatred of Otello, and promises Roderigo to help destroy Otello’s marriage.

Iago persuades Roderigo to provoke a fight after Iago encourages Cassio to drink heavily. Cassio gets drunk and reacts in public. Otello demotes Cassio for his disturbing behavior. When Desdemona appears, Otello sends everyone away to be with her alone. They recall moments about how they first met.
